The Museum Team

The Central Bank Museum falls under the External Relations department of the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago. The Museum has a permanent staff complement of four people and also receives support from the wider External Relations teams, including the Events Team, Graphics Team and Editorial Team. The Museum also counts on volunteers from the wider Bank from time to time when there are special activities and large events. The Museum’s unit comprises of the following persons:

Curator – Nimah Muwakil-Zakuri

Nimah is responsible for the overall management of the Museum’s collections and programmes as well as the supervision of the Museum team. She has over 15 years experience in the Museum field, having worked at the National Museum and Art Gallery for 5 years as well as serving on the Boards of the Museums Association of the Caribbean (MAC) (2011 – 2016) and the National Museum and Art Gallery (NMAG) (2019-2022). Nimah holds a BA (Licenciado) in Art History and Museology from the Universidad de Oriente, Santiago de Cuba and an MPhil. in Cultural Studies from the University of the West Indies. Nimah joined the Central Bank as Curator in 2013.

Job Summary: Manages the numismatic and art collections and updates policies and procedures consistent with global best practices in the Museum industry. Ensures that the collections are safeguarded, conserved, well researched, exhibited and promoted in keeping with the Museum’s policies and procedures. Oversees the day to day operation of the unit.

Museum Marketing and Operations Officer – Cynthia Stephenson

Cynthia assists in the development, execution and marketing of special museum events, programmes and outreaches.  She manages the gift shop and our tour booking system. She is responsible for leading guided tours of the Museum and training persons to give tours.  Cynthia also assists in developing educational programmes and activities for all age groups. Cynthia’s qualifications include a Certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution from Stitt Feld Handy Group, a  BA in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and an MA in Business Administration with a Major in Marketing Management from the Australian Institute of Banking (AIB). Cynthia started working at the Bank on May 5, 1986 and has worked in every department since joining the Central Bank family.

Job Summary: Assists with the day to day operations of the Museum including tour bookings, the museum shop and other visitor services. Assists with the development of marketing strategies for the Museum and provides input into and co-ordination of museum education programming.

Museum Research and Education Officer – Al Alexander

Al’s main responsibilities include assisting with the management of the collections, research and interpretation and developing educational programming and activities. Before joining the Museum officially in 2016, Al, who joined the Bank in 2007 worked with the Museum in developing and planning programmes, activities and temporary exhibitions. Of particular note is the Caribbean Music Pioneers Exhibition held in conjunction with the Bank of Jamaica that celebrated Caribbean Music Icons. Al holds an Associate Degree in Visual Communication from the College of Science Technology and Applied Arts (COSTATT), a BA in History from the University of the West Indies and he is currently pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing at the same institution. 

Job Summary: Assists with the development and implementation of the Museum’s educational objectives and research programme. Provides technical support in the areas of exhibition development, collections management, outreach initiatives, visitor programming and the museum’s online presence. 

Senior Museum Assistant – Phillip Antoine

Phillip’s responsibilities include leading guided tours, assisting with the upkeep of the Museum’s exhibits, environment and displays, including our multimedia displays and equipment. He assists with the management of the museum collections as well as photography and videography.

Phillip is a trained national tour guide, having been qualified by the Trinidad and Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute (TTHTI). He is also certified in photography and digital photography from the University of the West Indies Open Campus, the Digital Film Institute and The Trinidad and Tobago School of Photography. Phillip is certified in Advanced AV Production and Digital Film Production. He holds a Certificate in Health, Safety and Environmental Management from the University of the West Indies, School of Continuing Studies.

Job Summary: Provides logistical and other support to all areas of the Museum’s operation including visitor tours and services, facilitation of workshops and outreach events, inventory and maintenance, record keeping and monitoring of the facilities.
