The Central Bank Museum has two main collections - the Art Collection and the Numismatic Collection.

Both collections are unique and quite varied including paintings, sculpture, photography and objects relating the history of the Central Bank, coins, banknotes and pre-columbian artefacts. Our earliest work of art is by Michel Jean Cazabon and dates back to 1850, one of our earliest coins dates back to 1000 BC. The Museum continues to acquire and build on its holdings for the benefit of future generations.

Our Art Collection

Sybil Atteck

The art collection of the Central Bank comprises over 200 works of art by men and women who tell the stories of our past, our present and our longings and anxieties about the future.

The works are diverse and nuanced in both form and content and represent more than half of a century of Trinidad and Tobago’s visual art heritage. The Bank started collecting and exhibiting art within one year of its establishment in 1964, a testament to its investment in and support of the artistic and cultural development of Trinidad and Tobago.

Our Numismatic Collection

The Bank has always had in its holdings items of numismatic value and significance.

This collection was formalised and built upon when the Bank established the then Money Museum in 2004. Items in the numismatic collection were sourced through purchases, gifts and long-term loans over the years and the collection now stands at several hundred artefacts. As we continue to expand the offerings of our website we will be researching and adding to the database of items available for public review and research.

3D Sculpture Gallery

Several of the works of art in the collection are sculptures which are three-dimensional in nature.

Nothing beats seeing these works in person! Through this special gallery we will share 360 degree views of select objects from the collection.
